The place to be all year round
The English Riviera has one of the best climatic records in Britain, making it the perfect holiday destination, whatever the season. Torbay consists of the three main towns of Torquay, Paignton and Brixham.
Riviera winters are mild and short, soon giving way to the flower filled warmth of an early spring as carefully manicured gardens begin to bloom. It's also time to enjoy the freshness of the Riviera and the tranquillity of its secluded beaches and rocky coves.
Like spring, the long summer starts early. Fresh, sunny days merge into balmy evenings and that unique Riviera atmosphere reaches its peak.
Paignton
Paignton beaches are without doubt the best in the bay. All the pre-requisites are there: Gently sloping, very sandy, protected from prevailing winds, supported by a good infrastructure of restaurants, bars, ice cream kiosks, beach shops and marine activities.
Torquay
Torquay's waterfront is the focus of life in the town. Here you'll find the palm-lined promenade, seafront gardens, a lively harbour and an international marina. The new Living Coasts attraction adds to the variety of the new waterfront and the illuminated bridge is a great backdrop to a relaxing evening drink.
Brixham
Nestled in the rugged cliffs at the southern end of Tor Bay, this fascinating port boasts one of Britain's most beautiful harbours. It's around the harbour where you'll find the true Brixham, as fishermen, locals and visitors mix against the backdrop of rows of multi coloured cottages.
Agatha Christie Country
Torquay is the capital of Agatha Christie country. The world's most famous mystery writer was born in the town in 1890 and used many places in South Devon in her best selling mysteries.
Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway
Experience the romance of the steam age. The train takes you on a spectacular 7 mile journey alongside Tor Bay, then through wooded slopes to the River Dart.
